Religious Education K-12

Welcome to St. Mary of the Angels Religious Education Program. Our mission is to help parents with the formation of their children in the faith through a variety of faith-sharing and educational programs. Our faith is the most precious gift we have to give to our children. For our children to accept and be nourished by the teachings of the Church, it is important for parents to be directly involved in teaching the faith to their children. Simply put, we encourage our children to live the faith through the example we give in the home of prayer, Sunday Mass, and living out the Christian life.

FOR CHILDREN IN SCHOOL TO RECEIVE THE SACRAMENTS OF BAPTISM, FIRST CONFESSION, CONFIRMATION AND FIRST HOLY COMMUNION

Our program for the preparation for the sacraments of initiation follows a two-year schedule, which begins in the Fall and continues through the next year and into the following Spring.

The Diocese of Gallup uses the restored order of the sacraments and so the Sacraments of Confirmation or Reconciliation will take place toward the end of the first year of preparation.

For example: If the child begins preparation for the sacraments in the Fall of 2025, he or she can expect to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation (First Confession) in the Spring or Fall of the following year and receive Confirmation and First Holy Communion in the same Mass in the Spring of 2027.

Sacrament of Reconciliation (First Confession) - Begins in 2nd grade and is received at the end of second grade or beginning of third grade.

Sacrament of Confirmation - Begins in 2nd grade and is received in the 3rd grade.

Sacrament of Eucharist (First Communion) - Begins in 2nd grade and is received in the 3rd grade.
